The Lutron TU-2016 is a handheld turbidity meter designed to meet ISO 7027. It reads in NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Unit) over an automatic range of 0 to 1,000 NTU, with a resolution of 0.01 NTU from 0.00 to 49.99 NTU and 1 NTU from 50 to 1000 NTU. Its optics, built around an 850 nm LED light source and a photo diode detector, allow the same instrument to read low turbidity values as well as high levels up to 1,000 NTU.
A measurement needs only a 10 mL sample and takes less than 10 seconds. The meter is operated with four buttons and calibrated at two points, 0 NTU and 100 NTU, using the standard solutions supplied with it. It runs on six AAA batteries for field and on-site testing and can also be powered from an optional DC 9V adapter. It is intended for testing municipal water, food and beverage water, and other aqueous solutions where fluid clarity is important.
