Benetech GM900 Infrared Thermometer

The Benetech GM900 is an infrared thermometer for measuring the temperature of an object's surface without contact. It is suited to hot, hazardous or hard-to-reach objects, which can be measured safely and quickly, over a range of -50 to 900 °C (-58 to 1652 °F) with a resolution of 0.1 °C.

The unit consists of optics, a temperature sensor, a signal amplifier, a processing circuit and an LCD display. The optics collect the infrared energy emitted by the object and focus it onto the sensor, which converts it into an electrical signal that is processed and shown as a digital reading. The distance-to-spot ratio is 12:1 (a 38 mm spot at 300 mm, 75 mm at 900 mm and 132 mm at 1500 mm), and a laser is provided for aiming only.

Emissivity is adjustable from 0.10 to 1.00 (0.95 preset) to suit the measured material. The thermometer cannot measure through transparent surfaces such as glass or plastic, and steam, dust or smoke can prevent accurate measurement. After a large or abrupt change in ambient temperature, allow 30 minutes for the unit to stabilise before use.
